The Weaver Way is a research-based standard of practice for the Weaver Lake Community which includes students, staff, and families that best supports academic, social, and emotional development for all. The Weaver Way drives our actions and decisions, supports academic, social, and emotional growth, and builds a positive community.

Weaver Lake uses Responsive Classroom and the Positive Behavior Intervention Systems to teach and reinforce behavior expectations
to foster the following outcomes:

• Increase social skills and academic engagement.
• Increase learner investment and independence.
• Establish a positive school-wide climate.
• Decrease inappropriate behavior.

Weaver Way Expectations: 
Positive behavioral expectations are guidelines and routines that are taught in order to encourage appropriate behavior and prevent inappropriate behavior. A school’s behavioral expectations form the building blocks for a positive school environment that is conducive to student achievement. The Weaver Way expectations are:

• BE RESPECTFUL
• BE RESPONSIBLE
• BE READY

Expectation lessons are explicitly taught to help students learn what it looks like, sounds like, and feels like to be respectful, responsible, and ready. Posters with the Weaver Way expectations are used as visual tools to help students learn and follow these expectations.

A variety of strategies are used by Weaver Lake staff to encourage students to make positive behavior choices to promote a positive
school culture. The following are used school-wide to recognize students who demonstrate the Weaver Way:

• Receiving an “I Spy” slip
• Being selected for a monthly MVP lunch
• Receiving a “Bus Buck” from the bus driver

Most students succeed when clear expectations are taught and reinforced and a positive school climate is established. When a
student does not follow school-wide expectations one of the following interventions may be used:

• Take a break
• Loss of a privilege
• Restorative circle
• Consult with Behavior Intervention Teacher
• Behavior Intervention Form

If a student does not respond to initial interventions, the Behavior Intervention Teacher and a parent/guardian will be contacted to
discuss possible solutions. An intervention plan will be developed to help the student successfully follow school expectations.

Students who engage in a severe behavior will be sent to the Behavior Intervention Teacher. An Office Discipline Referral Form will be
completed and sent home with the student to be signed and returned to school the following day. The consequences for severe behaviors may be one or more of the following:

• Restitution
• In-School Suspension
• Out-of-School Suspension

Weaver Lake follows the District 279 policies relating to student behavior regarding weapons, harassment, and bullying. These policies can be found in the District 279 Elementary Parent Handbook accessible above.  As part of an ongoing effort to maintain a safe environment for all, students must immediately report their knowledge of a dangerous,harmful, or threatening situation to an adult at school.

Our goal at Weaver Lake is to provide a safe learning environment where our students can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We strive to teach children positive ways to interact with others and to help them learn to make good decisions about their own behavior.

Students are expected to be responsible digital citizens and technology users and follow the guidelines for acceptable use of the Internet. All students will understand and agree to the following guidelines:

I can use technology devices and Internet resources to ...

1. complete classroom assignments
2. collaborate with other students and my teacher
3. search and use information for assignments and research projects
4. publish and share my work
5. print with my teacher's permission
6. learn through educational game sites that are approved by my teacher and listed on "Online Tools for Kids"
7. access files that belong to me or are shared with me

While using technology devices and Internet resources I agree to...

1. only give out personal information such as last name, address, or phone number, with teacher or parent/guardian permission
2. respect and follow all copyright laws
3. contact my teacher if I accidentally access inappropriate materials on the Internet
4. only access materials appropriate to the learning activity
5. be a careful, responsible and respectful user of all District 279 technology devices
6. always THINK (Is it...True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind?) before you post
7. I will only post and share photos with permission from my teacher or parent/guardian
8. send or receive e-mail only if my teacher has designed a project calling for e-mail use
9. always use appropriate, respectful language when using a digital device

I have read and understand the above guidelines. If I choose not to follow these guidelines, I understand that the privilege of using technology devices and Internet resources will be taken away and school disciplinary action may be taken. This agreement will remain in effect during all of my years at Weaver Lake Elementary School.
