Fernbrook Elementary School students participate in service project
Students in Jennifer Phillips first grade class at Fernbrook Elementary School recently participated in a classroom service project. Students donated gently used books and made fleece blankets for families at Mary’s Place, a homeless and transitional housing center.
“We wanted to help make sure that everyone has a chance to enjoy the magic of reading, no matter where they live,” Phillips said.
Students collected donations throughout the month of February. On Valentine’s Day, the students made cards and created the tied-fleece blankets, with the help of parent volunteers.
“Watching my students light up every time a new book was donated put a smile on my face,” Phillips said. “We are so proud of our work and are happy to share these books and blankets with the children at Mary’s Place. We hope they enjoy reading these stories as much as we did.”
